Last week on a cold, dark Delhi street in the middle of the night one of the greatest partnerships of all time came to its magnificent conclusion. From the first “the girls”, as they were most commonly known, were fast friends. As different as different could be, yet suited perfectly together for ministry. For two years this dynamic duo battled the elements – bats, crazy gardeners, possessed houses – with a chemistry that would make even Batman and Robin jealous. So in-sync with each other, a quick glance was all it took for one to know what the other was the thinking. This bond was strengthened over a love for The West Wing, mangoes, milkshakes, Arizona (wait a second….), and sleepovers. Known for their grace, style, and charm (ahem! Or lack thereof) in all social situations, they liked to refer to themselves as “the country cousins”. Their time together was hallmarked by culinary greatness, a knack for hosting that would fill Martha Stewart with envy, and a commitment to try and always put the other first. This last part, sacrifice and service to the other, though not always easy, was a commitment they strove to uphold. Certainly there were struggles and hardships along the way, let us not forget the Good Day Biscuit Blunder of 2011, but in the end their friendship was stronger for having shared this time together. Having had the privilege of witnessing this pairing in action, it is hard to imagine one without the other. So while this chapter of their story has come to a close, this is certainly not the end for “the girls”
